Keats Island Cottage Staging
In May of 2017 I completed a third purge, sort and staging on the main floor of our family's cottage on Keats Island. Although it was an incredible challenge, I am really pleased with the results. The cottage has been in my family for over 40 years and become the resting place for the collective family's unwanted stuff. Dad is a collector/inventor and has a difficult time throwing anything away. He looks at something and sees possibility in everything! It gradually got out of control, felt overwhelming and no longer like a retreat. So with my parents blessing, I got to work. I kept the "cottage charm feel" in my plan, but carefully de-cluttered, purged and selected items so they could be better appreciated. I also thought of each member of my family during the process to ensure they would still feel at home. While I was busy working inside, I hired a roofer to replace the old shingles with a new vinyl roof to protect against fire. I used my training to create functional uncluttered rooms and added fresh new linens, lighting and art from my staging kit to freshen things up. I fully stocked the kitchen with everything needed to entertain guests. I plan to do a renovation in the future, but I know I definitely made the cottage a comfortable dwelling for all to enjoy!
